Michelle earned her Master’s Degree in Social Work at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2000. She did her clinical training at Massachusetts General Hospital where she was based at the Charlestown Mental Health Clinic in Boston, as well as at Duke Addictions Program in Durham, North Carolina.
Beginning her career working on community health research at Duke University Medical Center, Michelle also worked in inpatient substance abuse treatment as well as outpatient mental health. Transitioning later to private practice, Michelle treats individuals who want to improve their anxiety, mood, substance use, relational functioning, work performance, coping skills or receive support for chronic health conditions.
Recognizing the connection between the mind and the body, Michelle’s approach to treatment is one that is holistic and incorporates mindfulness as a component. Therapeutic approaches include cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic psychotherapy, therapeutic writing, motivational interviewing, solution-focused treatment and strengths-based approach.
In addition to her practice, Michelle serves as adjunct faculty member at the University of Southern Maine. Her writing and photography have been published in journals and featured in juried art exhibitions. Michelle offers presentations and workshops on topics related to mental health wellness.
