Dr. O’Brien received his Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Michigan State University in 1996. He works with both adolescents and adults, providing individual and couples therapy.
Dr. O’Brien is eclectic in his therapeutic style, drawing upon interpersonal process and cognitive behavioral models of treatment. Additionally, he provides Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). He treats patients with depressive and anxiety disorders and specializes in the treatment of substance abuse, grief, trauma, HIV-related issues and gay/lesbian issues.
Dr. O’Brien is an EMDRIA-Certified therapist and an EMDRIA-Approved Consultant. He is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Maine at Augusta and he is the past President of the Maine Psychological Association.
